The G78 boys lacrosse program is intermediate level lacrosse for 7th and 8thgrades. The boys need not have experience to play. This program is a bit more advanced and competitive compared to the G56 level. There are enhanced rules, larger, regulation field size and the use of long poles for defensive players. Although the players continue to develop the basic skills of cradling, catching, throwing, scooping and defense, there will be advanced instruction for off ball movement and strategic plays. There will be three to four balanced teams, which will each play eight games in the Massachusetts Bay Youth Lacrosse League. The games are typically played at 3 p.m. on Sundays, but the time may vary depending upon the opponent and field availability. The games are played on a regulation size field, with one coach on the field to provide instruction. The teams will practice twice per week, likely for one and one-half hours per practice, depending upon field availability. The dates and times of practices and games will be announced in the spring prior to the start of the season.
New players will receive a reversible Reading lacrosse jersey for games. The boys need the following equipment to play: lacrosse helmet, mouthpiece, lacrosse shoulder pads, lacrosse arm pads, lacrosse gloves, protective cup, and cleats.
